Not a long post today. Just a quick note on the tragedy unfolding in Florida. All the Disney blogs are covering Milton really well. The hurricane is a hot topic on the discussion boards. I will not rehash the old news here. What I want to do is give a shout out to those who will be putting others first. They do this despite their own personal tragedy. These dedicated employees really go above and beyond IMNSHO. They really deserve all the thanks and kudos that I can muster.

We all know how unselfish and giving the first responders are. They put their own tragedy and safety second for the public they serve. The officer that is searching the wreckage of a home for survivors, may not have a home to go back to. I really cannot imagine the dedication that takes. These people really do deserve all the praise and thanks they get.
The same goes for Cast Members at Disney Resorts, as well as the employees at Busch Gardens, Universal, SeaWorld, and Gatorland. (I know I missed a park or two. Apologies.)Once the storm passes, these employees will dig out and put the parks in running shape. I can almost bet this will be in record time. These people will be forgoing checking on their own property to ensure that visitors will have a great visit and all vestiges of the storm will be erased. For many park visitors, it will be like nothing happened at all.

I cannot imagine this kind of selfless dedication in non first responder roles. After all First Responders protect and save life, a noble calling. The cast members suspend reality and make the magic for the rest of us. Being able to escape into an alternate reality is paramount in the wake of such destruction and human suffering. Without which, it would be very easy to be very depressed and hopeless. Instead a visit to the parks will show that even faced with the awesome fury of Mother Nature, everything will be alright.
You know the world would be much better off if we could put others first as these few dedicated employees do. They exemplify what is best in humanity.
If you a planning a trip soon after the storm, thank a Cast Member.
Please donate what you can to the American Red Cross or other disaster relief organization. As this is a human crisis that crosses all boundaries.
If you have a story about how a Cast Member went above and beyond, please tell us about it! These stories often go unheard.
Until Next Time.
